Author, Mark Alan Leslie of Monmouth
“True North: Tice’s Story”
Sunday, April 24th @ 2 pm

Leslie’s novel weaves the story of 19-year-old slave Tice as he swims the Ohio River from Kentucky to Ohio and connects to “conductors” of the Underground Railroad who help his escape northeast through Massachusetts and Maine to Canada.

As they did in reality with a number of slaves in the 1860s, China’s Abel Chadwick and his family put their lives and fortunes at risk to help Tice and another slave escape.

Leslie’s talk will include a PowerPoint presentation on the Underground
Railroad in Maine.
